​ What are the benefits of Pilates?
​Some benefits to Pilates are improved posture and flexibility, increased core and overall strength, enhanced balance and coordination, and reduced stress.
What is the difference between mat Pilates and equipment Pilates?
Mat Pilates uses body weight for resistance, while equipment Pilates uses specialized machines with spring tension for additional resistance.
How long is a typical Pilates class?
​Classes are usually 45-60 minutes long.
What should I wear to my first Pilates Class?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Make sure to wear socks with grip or go barefoot to avoid slipp​ing.
Do I need to bring anything to my first Pilates class?
​Equipment, mats, and any necessary props will be provided, but feel free to bring a water bottle and grip socks if you aren't comfortable going barefoot.
What time should I arrive for my Pilates lesson?
5-10 minutes! You will have paperwork to fill out prior to your first lesson, but this will still give you ample time.
How often should I do Pilates?
For best results and if your schedule/budget allows, we recommend starting with 1-2 sessions per week. That being said, we emphasize consistency before quantity. Frequency of practice is an individualized preference.
​Do I need to be in good shape to participate in Pilates?
​Nope, Pilates is adaptable for all fitness levels. Instructors can make modifications and offer variations to allow Pilates to be accessible to all. If you are new to Pilates, we highly recommend doing an Intro Assessment to get started on a successful path.
Can I do Pilates if I have an injury or pain/restrictions in my body?
After clearance from your healthcare provider, we recommend an Intro Assessment before hopping into group classes. This will give you a chance to work with an Instructor, discussing and coming up with a plan to stick with private lessons or move on to classes.
Can I participate in Pilates while pregnant?
Absolutely! You can practice Pilates all the way up to day of delivery. However, always check with your healthcare provider before starting a new exercise routine during pregnancy. If new to Pilates and/or our studio, we highly encourage doing an Intro Assessment to better determine if classes would be a good fit.
Is Pilates a low-impact exercise?
Yes, Pilates is a low-impact exercise which is gentler on joints while still challenging strength and flexibility. No days off needed.
